What is ZipID?
ZipID is the market leader for mobilised face-to-face identity verification for regulated transactions, including real estate dealings.
ZipID is operated by a team of legal, real estate, e-commerce and security specialists together with our field agent partner, Toll.
ZipID’s two solutions deliver efficiency, safety, compliance and value-for-money to consumers and businesses:
What does ZipID's service cost?
ZipID’s "come to you" Verification Agent service is competitively priced at only $59 per individual verification.
Secure payment for ZipID’s Verification Agent service is collected directly from the consumer by ZipID.
ZipID’s VOI App is provided to business users for only $9 per VOI report.
Where does ZipID operate?
We currently operate in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia and Australian Capital Territory. Our service area coverage (metropolitan areas and suburbs) can be found at zipid.com.au/postcodes.
How does ZipID’s "come to you" Verification Agent service work?
ZipID operates as a reputable, competent and fully insured Verification Agent.
ZipID enables lenders, lawyers and conveyancers to offer their consumers the convenience and flexibility of having their identity verified at home or at work (including after hours and on weekends) without the need to visit a branch or office.
Once ZipID has completed the verification of identity (VOI) the business user can download a fully-compliant VOI Report. This Report will contain the 'Verification Agent Declaration' required by the Verification of Identity Rules (VOI rules) certifying that ZipID has conducted a face-to-face Verification of Identity that fully complies with the “reasonable steps” safe harbour.
Are ZipID's mobile representatives reputable?
Yes. All of our field representatives have passed police background checks and have been trained by our identity fraud experts and perform the ID checks using ZipID's guided secure technology.
ZipID is working with Toll, Australia’s leading national logistics provider to perform ZipID's 'come to you' service at the time and location booked by the consumer.
Are ZipID's field representatives competent?
Yes. ZipID's solution adheres to quality assured system and business rules to ensure a very high standard of competency is consistently maintained by its personnel and the field representatives carrying out the VOI. Further details are explained below.
ZipID's verification of identity service uses intelligent workflow design and system rules, in order to guarantee a fully compliant VOI report. System rules will prevent a VOI Report being generated until it has been quality assured by ZipID's internal team. Job data collected includes time, date and geo-location stamping to provide a robust audit-trail. Over time ZipID will be able to use acquired business intelligence to model for anomalous behaviour.
Quality assurance processes
All data collected by our mobile representatives will be quality checked by ZipID's internal team and before a compliant VOI Report is provided to the business user. This segregation of duties allow a second opportunity to address any anomolies before our VOI Report is certified as fully compliant.
All ZipID field representatives will undergo a comprehensive training and accreditation program developed by ZipID’s identity fraud specialist.
This training includes awareness of fraud detection techniques to provide quality and reliable identity checking, and to flag any suspicious cases as non-compliant. Drawing upon the expertise within our team, ZipID provides training on acceptable types of documents, determining authenticity and indicators of tampering/counterfeiting.
Insurance and liability
Is ZipID insured?
ZipID’s VOI services are comprehensively insured. This includes $20 million professional indemnity cover satisfying the levels required under the VOI rules.
What are the key benefits of using ZipID?
ZipID’s "come to you" face-to-face VOI service delivers a professional standard of end-to-end compliance to business users. This includes:
- satisfying the “safe harbour” VOI provisions under the VOI rules;
- securely storing archived VOI reports for the required retention period, and
- providing business users with secure access to VOI reports.
Additionally, ZipID's "come to you" model provides unique flexibility, convenience and value to the customer. ZipID delivers security and total respect for privacy for its users.
How is ZipID appointed as Verification Agent?
ZipID is appointed under a written Verification Agency Agreement which addresses the service standards and responsibilities of ZipID in performing VOIs on behalf of business users. ZipID guarantees that the processes carried out by its personnel and field representatives strictly conform to the “safe harbour” VOI standard set out in the VOI rules.
Each business user will be issued with a unique ZipID Business Code. This ZipID Business Code will be used by a consumer to book a VOI appointment, thereby ensuring that the VOI Report is delivered to the correct business user. This is analogous to BPay, where payments are correctly routed using a BPay Biller Code and Reference.
Business users are cross-checked by ZipID using public business records and telephone call back verification when initially registering.
For more details view the Verification Agency Agreement.
Does ZipID comply with all State VOI rules?
ZipID's face-to-face VOI services have been developed to remove risk and identification friction from all paper-based and electronic real property dealings. ZipID satisfies the VOI Rules implementing the Model Participation Rules in all states.
How does ZipID identify companies?
ZipID’s service covers identification of individuals authoring dealings (i.e. the company officers). It will remain the responsibility of the business user to check ASIC records to ensure that the company exists and that identified individual is authorised to signed on behalf of the company (as required under the VOI rules).
How does ZipID identify persons dealing under Powers of Attorney?
ZipID’s service covers identification of individuals (i.e. the attorney). It will remain the responsibility of the business user to check the Power of Attorney for details of the attorney/donor and to ensure that the transaction is permitted under the Power of Attorney (as required under the VOI rules).
Security and privacy
What information security methods does ZipID use?
ZipID takes security very seriously.
ZipID data resides within Australia in a state-of-the-art facility that has achieved ISO 27001 certification covering infrastructure, data centres and services. Physical access is strictly controlled by professional security personnel utilising video surveillance, intrusion detection systems, and other electronic means. Authorised personnel must pass two-factor authentication no fewer than three times to access data centre floors.
ZipID encrypt data in transit and at rest using AES-256 bit SSL (Secure Sockets Layer). This is the same level of encryption used by leading banks and government agencies.
ZipID creates a comprehensive transaction trail between parties. We track and timestamp various information from the moment data is submitted to when it is completely verified, such as IP addresses; User Agent information and geo-location.
VOI reports are digitally signed, providing proof that zipID authored the document and validation that document contents have not been tampered with.
ZipID employs independent Security Consultants to undergo penetration tests and vulnerability assessments of its servers.
Verification of Identity Reports are encrypted and stored in ZipID’s secure data facilities for 7 years to satisfy the business user’s record keeping obligations under the VOI rules.
What privacy standards does ZipID commit to?
ZipID’s privacy protocols in relation to the collection, storage and handling of personal information are designed to strictly satisfy the highest public expectations for our service and the principles set out in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
How does ZipID’s "come to you" face-to-face VOI service differ from electronic methods?
ZipID tackles the issue of physical sighting of documentation that electronic verification methods do not. Both solutions help reduce the friction of verification. Electronic methods do so by checking credentials against databases to verify that an identity exists, not that the person entering the information is the person being verified. With personal information being increasingly given away or compromised online, there are well established black markets where personal information is bought and sold, making it easier for criminals to provide "proof" they are other people via electronic verification services.
ZipID’s innovative solution does not compromise robustness in VOI for speed, cost and convenience. ZipID's face-to-face VOI processes ensure a trusted agent physically meets the customer for verification, sights and feels documentation, assesses the demeanour of the customer, records the geo-location and time of the meeting and obtains signatures for VOI consent and Client Authorisation (where applicable).
ZipID's innovative solution reduces friction by allowing customers to schedule the service during and after hours, including Saturdays, at a location of their choosing.
What organisations are working with ZipID?
Since launching in March 2014 ZipID has been working with a large and growing customer base of lenders, lawyers and conveyancers across four states. ZipID collaborates closely with peak professional and industry bodies representing lawyers, conveyancers, mortgage lenders and mortgage brokers. ZipID is also working closely with PEXA as an official VOI partner to assist uptake and use of electronic conveyancing.
ZipID mobile app
How does ZipID’s Verification of Identity App work?
The ZipID App allows business users to reliably and efficiently verify their client’s identity. The App enables strict compliance with the "reasonable steps" safe harbour created by clause 6.5.2 of the VOI rules.
Using the ZipID App on a camera-enabled mobile device (Android or iOS), the business user can meet with their client to perform face-to-face VOI using a guided checklist workflow in a couple of minutes.
The App captures and encrypts the identification records (including images of identity documents). The App then generates a Verification of Identity Report and compliant Subscriber Declaration for access by the business using a secure login.
VOI Reports are encrypted and stored in ZipID’s secure data facilities for 9 years to satisfy the business user's record keeping obligations under the VOI rules.
